Alaska - Day 5, Skagway Part 2

After a pretty quick lunch on the ship (we didn't know how close the town was, or we would have walked over and looked around), we shed our extra layers, and got ready for a train ride on the White Pass Railroad! Back to the gold rush era.  My dad and brother were content to kick back on the ship, and didn't join the rest of us on the train ride...

Bubba showing me inside the brochure - "the things we were looking for..."

Bubba insisting, repeatedly, what we were looking for...
This is where we are at
And this is what we are looking for!
Are you looking for it?
Still looking!

You can rent it out for a night, little red caboose!

Sawtooth mountain - guide said they couldn't see peaks earlier in the day - fog.

The old, falling down bridge...
No bueno crossing
New bridge

We actually did cross into Canada while on the Train - Bubba's first time in a foreign country!

Having fun on the train - and some goofing off as well!

When the train turned around (switched directions), we had to let another train go by - and they told us to make faces at the people as passed.

Conductor taking a rest as we wait to turn around...

Nothing like moose ears in Alaska!

A relaxing train ride with many beautiful things to see.  My sister got some really great pictures - I was content to not leave my seat, so I saw the world through the window.  I did go outside on the platform once, what happened?  In a word - mosquitos!  As one bus driver told us that mosquito's were Alaska's state bird...

I let Bubba take a picture with my camera, and she got my reflection:

Then did a pretty good job of avoiding mamma's camera.

But she couldn't avoid Teetee's camera - gotcha!

And eventually she did need to use the restroom on the train - I got up to help her (check to make sure the bathroom was empty, then locked it for her when she went in).  She was in there for an awfully long time, and even in the dark when we went back through the tunnel!  Eventually her mom got up to find out what was going on - and turns out she couldn't figure out how to flush, there were written directions for a weird pump thing.

Why is the lady one-legged?

And the views, always stunning!

The town we only saw from the train...

After we got off the train - it was just a few yards from the ship!

Hey - he messed up my shadow!

To the small, all the world is a playground!  Only regret in Skagway - didn't get to walk around town.  And then the ship ended up having to wait extra time for people to get back from their excursion that was late anyway, so we sat at the dock for ages, oh well!

Aargh, who wants to be in a pirate parade?!  Bet you can easily guess which little hook is my most favorite pirate!

Our towel animals for the evening, rabbit, mouse, and eskimo!

Time to end the day looking out at the sunset!
